NMC prepares Kumbh Mela plans worth ₹15,172 crore

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has prepared Kumbh Mela plans worth Rs 15,172 crore, which is Rs 3,547 crore more than what was initially decided.

NMC commissioner Ashok Karanjkar told TOI that the Kumbh Mela plan has been prepared and the copy of the plan has been submitted to state govt

According to the NMC officials, the civic body had prepared an initial Kumbh Mela plan with a budget of Rs 11,625 crore. But later it was revised to Rs 15,172 crore.

“The plan involves the land acquisition cost for the Sadhugram, fixing missing links on major roads and expanding the existing width of the road at some places. Earlier, we had not included the land acquisition cost for the project. Now, we have added the cost and other provisions in the Kumbh Mela plans, which has increased the Kumbh Mela plan by Rs 3,547 crore,”said NMC officials.

The NMC has allocated Rs 3,952 crore for the public works department, Rs2,933 crore for the sewage department, Rs5,426 crore for land acquisition for various Kumbh projects, Rs 1,250 crore for water supply, Rs185 crore for the electricity department, Rs 238 crore for the solid waste department, Rs555 crore for the health department, Rs29.50 crore for disaster management etc.

The plan includes proposals for constructing 21 bridges on the Godavari and its tributaries in the city, as well as re-laying of major roads.

With just three years left for the Mela, NMC administration has geared up for the preparations of the religious congregation.

During the last Kumbh Mela held in 2015, the state government had approved plans worth Rs 1,052 crore.

Around Rs 450 crore were spent on constructing five bridges and relaying 300 km of roads in the city.

The Kumbh Mela is held every 12 years, and this is the occasion that pushes the civic body to improve the city’s infrastructure like the roads, streetlights and the water supply.

Over 2 crore devotees and sadhus had visited during the last Kumbh Mela.
